The Botanical Brasserie
Richmond, London
The Botanical, within Kew Royal Botanic Gardens, sits within the Grade 2 listed former ‘Museum No.1’ building. The original museum was opened in 1857 and housed Kew’s botanical collections. Although the space had been functioning as a restaurant since 2016, the museum cabinets remain.
The team were appointed in 2019 for the refurbishment and in November 2021 The Botanical Brasserie was opened. The restaurant was essentially a white box to work with, in which we embellished with botanical wallpaper and textile prints, heritage colours, greenery & brass finishes, all to better reflect the character of the Kew collection, the era of the building, and the surrounding gardens.
The bar is now a focal point, and moulded dado panelling and cornices were installed to re-instate some period features. C-Side Design curated the cabinets with the museums economic botany history in mind.
The restaurant sits directly opposite Palm House, and a new terrace not only elevates the views of this across the pond, but it separates the outdoor dining experience from the thoroughfare, and provides a step free entrance to Brasserie.
