In 2018, Away Resorts sought to inaugurate their holiday season with a flagship restaurant that would exemplify the park's family-friendly ethos while immersing holiday-makers in their natural surroundings.

The team took inspiration from the park's roots, ensuring a connection between the dining experience and its surroundings. The original restaurant lacked a clear association with its namesake, Aubrey Westlake, the park's original owner, and woodland skill tutor.

Our new design aimed to bring the outdoors inside, featuring a striking trunk bar, birch screens, tree trunk stools in the waiting area, and a terrace with a fire pit for marshmallow toasting.

The bar was thoughtfully enlarged, a decision the client had previously contemplated but hesitated due to concerns about floor space reduction. In practice, the new footprint efficiently incorporated the previously redundant floor area between structural posts, successfully linking the areas together without compromising seating capacity.

Furthermore, an extension was thoughtfully added to the side of the venue, while carefully selected furniture and lighting contributed to the overall ambiance.

Even in 2022, with a small "refresh" and embellishment designed, this flagship restaurant remains a cherished destination for visitors at Sandy Balls, continuing to embody the essence of a memorable and immersive dining experience.
